The 2017 vintage is one of the great years of the decade for Volnay and more generally for the Burgundy vineyards. A vintage full of fruit and freshness. This Volnay 1er Cru Le Ronceret 2017 from Domaine Génot-Boulanger is a great Burgundy wine, full of finesse and aromatic intensity. The appellation takes its name from the Old French roncier, which refers to a bramble bush; the parcel was once rife with these thorny plants. It comes from a plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1958, with a total surface area of 0.40 hectare. The vines are planted on a deep gravelly soil combined with Bathonian limestone, which is characterized by its stony and reddish aspect. The maturing of this Premier Cru is done in two stages, with first of all a 12 months passage in oak barrels and then a 6 months maturing in tanks. The Domaine Génot-Boulanger's approach is the least interventionist possible. It favors long fermentations, extractions that are as gentle as possible, no fining or filtration, to let the typicity of the terroir and the vintage express itself.
