From one of the leading cooperatives in the world - amongst the best value wines in Piemonte. This wine represents 50% of this highly respected co-op’s production. (25% is their Nebbiolo Langhe and 20–25% single vineyards, released as Riservas after one extra year’s ageing.) bottling. Produttori's Barbaresco always offers terrific value for money, and the 2021 is as good an iteration as I can remember tasting from this quality-driven cooperative of growers. Translucent garnet with a jewel of ruby at the core, the nose is enticing and fragrant with dried strawberries, pressed cherry blossom and a light hint of leather and cigar leaf. That same fruit core carries to the palate, which has a weightless intensity and ethereal florality. The tannins are pithy, adding a chalky, almost apple-skin like grip that lets you know this is Nebbiolo without obscuring the fruit. The acidity is just as important, racing through the core, managing the riper sweet strawberry notes and drawing your attention to the floral accents in the wine. This is really an excellent effort, finishing long and fine with a savoury kick of that same leather and cigar from the nose. You can drink it now, but it will cellar well for over a decade. Superb.
