Jean-Marc Brocard is one of the leaders in biodynamic wines in Chablis. The Brocard Vieilles Vignes Sainte Claire is from a Massal selection of very old vines planted after WWII that gives tiny yields of around 30 hl per hectare. The vineyard sits on southwest-facing exposures in class Chablis upon beds of Kimmeridgian limestone soils. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, no battonage and allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. It ages on its lees in stainless tanks for added complexity. The 2023 Chablis Vieilles Vignes V.V.46 comes from the first vineyard given to Julien Brocard's father, the vines were planted in 1946, the same year his father was born. Aromatically the wine is full of yellow fruits, such as lemon and crunchy apples, mango, and a hint of salty air. On the palate, the wine is a touch oily, with notes of marzipan, crushed rocks and delicate lemon curd. Possibly superior to many Premier Cru wines. Enjoy over the next 6-8 years.
