Michel Niellon is a critically well-regarded wine producer based in Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, synonymous with top-flight Chardonnay, in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune subregion. He produces a range of labels from the area (including some red wines, from grand cru through to premier cru and village-level wines. The estate began selling wine in the 1960s, and has been run by three generations of the Niellon family. Michel Niellon, the current proprietor, is well known for his Chardonnay wines, and makes some of the region’s best Pinot Noir wines. This 2020 has discreet but perceptible nuances of wood and menthol on the ripe and fresh red and dark raspberry, pepper and newly turned earth nuances. There is fine mid-palate density to the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess much better than average depth and persistence for such a young Chassagne red. One to strongly consider as this is very good.
