Tannat is originally from southwest France, in the areas of Madiran AOC and Irouleguy. It continues to be cultivated in France as well as Uruguay (the fourth largest producer in South America after Chile, Argentina and Brazil). With a climate similar to Bordeaux and soils clay-rich and calcareous, Uruguay is perfect for Tannat, a thick-skinned, red variety and Bodegas Garzón farms 175 acres of it; this selection is the winery’s flagship and one of the greatest values you can find in the wine market today. This 100% Tannat is aged in cement tanks to give freshness to the already robust grape. It is then aged for 6-12 months on the lees in french oak barrels and casks.
