This is the first-ever biodynamic cuvée to be produced in Champagne. It was formulated in 1989, the same year the Berlin Wall fell, and it is a tribute to this event that marked the end of the Cold War. “Fleur de L’Europe” is French for “flower of Europe”, Fleury’s second most important cuvée in terms of production. It was developed around the outset of the European Union and named in its honor—blends 85% Pinot Noir (partly from the 2006-founded perpetual reserve) with 15% Chardonnay and spends longer on its lees than the Blanc de Noirs. The current disgorgement is based on the 2018 harvest, with the perpetual reserve of Pinot Noir accounting for around a third of the final blend; it was bottled for secondary fermentation in July 2019 and disgorged in May 2024 with no dosage. This gorgeous Champagne is broader and more overtly pastry-like than the Blanc de Noirs, with an expansive, mineral-saturated palate of notable cling.
