Nestled in the heart of the Barolo region, the organic G.D. Vajra Bricco delle Viole is a stunning wine this year that perfectly embodies the elegance of Nebbiolo. From a site at 480 metres altitude (the highest in Barolo) this is always one of our favorite wines from this excellent producer. We love it especially thanks to its fine nuances of redcurrant, pressed flower and something a little savory like peat moss, balanced by subtle earthy nuances, reflecting the unique terroir of the vineyard. On the palate, the wine is lively yet refined, with fine tannins that offer structure while maintaining the wine's light touch. The acidity is bright, bringing out the freshness of the fruit, while the finish is long and smooth, leaving behind lingering red fruit and floral notes. All of these little details emerge with terrific sharpness in an epic vintage such as 2021. A perfect companion for roasted meats, game, or truffle-infused dishes, this Barolo is delightful now but promises further evolution in the cellar, revealing even more layers of complexity as it ages.
