Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and was the second winery of the Tuscan coastal Bolgheri appellation, following the original Super Tuscan, Sassicaia. Grattamacco has lead the region in environmentally responsible farming, and was the first to use an Alberello or head-pruned method in Bolgheri.  The 2024 Bolgheri Rosso is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Bright red/purplish fruit, mint, lavender and mocha all grace this inviting, entry-level offering from Grattamacco. This is exceptionally delicious already - a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Sangiovese, and 5% Petit Verdot. This packs in a lot of flavor and freshness for a very reasonable price. Pairs perfectly with typical, hearty Tuscan dishes and it's excellent throughout the meal for its freshness and versatile character. In a normal year, Grattamacco’s $110 flagship stands toe-to-toe with Ornellaia and Sassicaia.
