Palacio was founded in 1894 by Don Cosme de Palacio, an entrepreneur from Bilbao, one of the pioneers of winemaking in the region who made many positive changes, including the introduction of ageing in oak barrels. 12 months ageing in French oak has enhanced this contemporary expression of Rioja, toasty, plump and fruity. It's made by Bodegas Palacio, which lies in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, at the bottom of the road leading up to Laguardia, a spectacular fortified hilltop village set against the backdrop of the Sierra Cantabria. Toasty vanilla meets vibrant black cherry fruit in this unmistakably classic Rioja. Smooth, silky, and packing a punch. The depth of fruity and layers of flavour here make for a fine match with medium-hot curries like a lamb Rogan Josh or Xacuti.
