A South African icon that's been around since the 17th century, from 65 year old vines. Pinotage is a crossing between Pinot Noir and Cinsault and is uniquely South African in the way Zinfandel is California. 2022 was the latest vintage in the past 25 years, about 2 weeks later than normal. We had a proper cold winter with enough rain, that resulted in budbreak that was 2 weeks late. Made by a man who understands Pinotage better than anyone, Abrie Beeslaar’s red is good to drink now but will also develop in bottle. Comfortably handling its 80% new wood, it has notes of Asian spices and toast, succulent blackberry and cherry fruit, refreshing acidity and a stony, mineral core. 2024-30
